Oolong Tea & Rock Tea

  • What it is: A highly artisanal, semi-oxidized tea that bridges the gap between fresh greens and robust blacks. It is the traditional centerpiece of the Gongfu tea ceremony.

  • Taste Profile: Incredibly diverse. Light oolongs (like Tieguanyin) are floral, buttery, and orchid-like, while dark, heavily roasted oolongs (like Da Hong Pao) feature deep notes of stone fruit, roasted nuts, and minerals.

  • TCM Function: A "harmonizing" tea with neutral energy. It is highly prized for cutting through heavy meals, aiding metabolism, and balancing the body's internal temperature.

  • The Experience: We offer a curated Gongfu tasting flight—allowing you to explore the shifting flavor spectrum of our premium oolongs across multiple steeps.

  • Where to Buy: Available online for Canada-wide shipping or for local pickup at our cozy tea house in Kanata, Ottawa.

The Wuyi & Anxi Legacy

The True Gongfu Standard

When many people encounter Oolong tea, it is often as the standard, over-steeped house blend served at local dim sum restaurants. But historically, premium Oolong is the most complex and labor-intensive tea in the world to produce.

Authentic Chinese Wulong is an evolving journey in a cup. Our collection is anchored by two legendary terroirs: the high-altitude, misty peaks of Anxi County (famous for the floral Iron Goddess of Mercy) and the mineral-rich cliffs of the Wuyi Mountains (home to the legendary Big Red Robe rock teas). Sourced directly from our family's network in China, these whole-leaf teas are meticulously rolled, bruised, and roasted by master artisans.

TCM & Wellness

The Harmonizing Brew

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Oolong is celebrated for its perfectly balanced nature—it is neither entirely "Yin" (cooling) nor fully "Yang" (warming), making it the ideal daily tea for maintaining equilibrium.

  • Digestive Harmony: Oolong is famous in TCM for its ability to cut through dietary fats and ease heavy digestion, making it the perfect post-meal companion.

  • Metabolic Support: The unique polyphenols developed during the semi-oxidation process are known to gently stimulate the metabolism and promote a feeling of lightness.

  • Afternoon Focus: It provides a steady, clarifying lift in mental energy without the crash associated with sugary drinks or heavy coffee.

Brewing Guide

Unlocking the Leaves

Oolong is designed to be pushed to its limits and steeped many times.

  • Gongfu Style (Traditional): Use 6 to 8 grams of tea in a porcelain Gaiwan or seasoned Yixing clay teapot. Pour water just off the boil (95°C / 205°F). Flash-steep the first infusion for 10 to 15 seconds. You can easily re-steep these tightly rolled leaves 7 to 10 times, adding 5 seconds to each round. Watch as the tightly rolled leaves slowly unfurl to fill the whole pot!

  • Western Style (Mug): Place 4 grams of loose leaf in a standard infuser mug. Add 95°C water and steep for 3 minutes. Remove the leaves to prevent bitterness and enjoy a beautifully complex cup.
